Entrepreneurs are Superheroes

This article is written by Jeremiah Uke, a Contributor Author at Etohum.

The world has become a seamless village, where information and communication can be transmitted from one end of the world to the opposite end in a matter of a second, the digital age has seen a great surge in technological development, which has, in turn, affected a lot of economies positively.

Tim Draper, a successful venture capitalist, founder of Draper University and Draper Associates, sees entrepreneurs to be superheroes because they look at the future and create a solution in the present that will solve that problem, using Ian Wright as an example, Ian Wright demonstrated to Tim how much better electric cars are better gas powered cars, Tim went on to meet Martin Eberhard who was starting Tesla, an electric car manufacturing company, Tesla experienced some financial issues before Elon Musk came in, and today Tesla is one of the most successful car manufacturing companies in the world, Tim believes that all three guys are all heroes because of their individual efforts to making Tesla a success. In this case, Ian Wright got people talking about electric cars, Martin Eberhard pushed the idea forward, and Elon Musk made the whole venture a very successful one.

Tim talks about how failed startups and successful ones, are both contributors to the success of the technology space right now, using Myspace as an example, in his words, “there would have been no Facebook without Myspace”, this is very true considering that Myspace was a very successful social network until the advent and success of Facebook.

Jeff Bezos, CEO, and founder of Amazon, currently the world’s largest online sales company, Jeff founded Amazon in 1994, it was originally an online book store and expanded to selling a variety of products and services including video and audio streaming. Amazon is also the world’s largest provider of cloud infrastructure services via its Amazon Web Services arm. Jeff Bezos went on to purchase “The Washington Post” in 2013 for $250 million dollars.

Uber was founded by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp who spotted a problem with the way people use taxis and came up with a smart solution that is a win-win for both car owners and people who need taxis, Uber went on to become successful and spread to even African countries including Nigeria.

Elon Musk is seen as a very successful entrepreneur, he pushed a number of startups to achieve success, his first startup “Zip2” was a web software company, which was acquired by Compaq in 1999, he later founded X.com, an online bank. It merged with Confinity in 2000 and later that year became PayPal, which was bought by eBay for $1.5 billion in October 2002. Musk founded SpaceX In May 2002, an aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company, of which he is CEO and lead designer. He helped fund Tesla in 2003 and became its CEO. In 2006, he inspired the creation of SolarCity, a solar energy services company that is now a subsidiary of Tesla. The impact generated by the startups made by just the 3 above-mentioned entrepreneurs is immeasurable, truly entrepreneurs are superheroes.
